The Vietnam War
Vietnam was colonized by France during the latter part of 19.århundrede. During the 2nd World War II in 1940 Japan took complete control over Indochina. In return France promised a Vietnam autonomy, but Japan also pledged independence for Vietnam. When Japan capitulated in August 1945, secured the national front Viet Minh, the Communist Party's leadership, fast control over most of the country without meeting any significant resistance. On 2 September 1945 Ho Chi Minh proclaimed Vietnams independence the Democratic Republic of Vietnam. Vietnam War killed 2 million Vietnamese and 50,000 North Americans lived, but Vietnam won.
