"English abstract
In this assignment I have read and interpreted a book called “Born on the 4th of July”, that’s written by a Vietnam-veteran by the name Ron Kovic. The book deals with the psychological consequence of being in Vietnam and the aftermath back in the United States for the homecoming of the veterans. Ron Kovic and many other Vietnam-veterans came home to a country that was consumed with hatred and contempt towards them and the American government. Despite that they fought for their country and values. Many veterans had a hard time to be reintegrated in the American society and some never did. The society was no longer the same. Many veterans were attacked in public places by angry and confused citizens. Many veterans were also against the war. Therefore the veterans formed an organization called “Vietnam Veterans Against the War”. I tried to give some explanations on the main causes to why the American society changed their mind upon the Vietnam War, the American government and the Vietnam-veterans during the 1960s. Some of the explanation was the war methods used by the American government in Vietnam. Many of these cruel and meaningless methods had negative consequences for the civilian population in Vietnam. For the purpose of a discussion on the domestic front’s impact and influence on the American soldiers, I have used Michael Cimino’s film, “The Deer Hunter” and Hal Ashby’s film, “Coming Home” as my sources for this purpose. On the basis of these films I can conclude that the war in Vietnam was terrible. I will finish off my assignment with a conclusion and a summation of the Vietnam-war.
