Global Warming
Global Warming is a common subject these days, every time you turn on the TV or the newspaper there’s a good chance of getting more knowledge about it. Many countries around the world are already trying to decrease the amount of green-house gasses which has been released in massive amounts since the industrial revolution. Because of the big influence the subject has on the world today it’s hard not to have an opinion. I think that it’s important to be aware of these facts we hear almost every day, it’s important to support an environment with lesser CO2 emission. But is this problem real and is it worth to believe in if it’s not?
Some time ago when I was around 14 years old my family and I took a visit to Egypt’s capital Cairo. We were driven through some very intensive places where hundreds of cars and factories were oozing smoke around the town. People were throwing their trash out the windows instead of putting it in the trashcan. It was here I realized the reality of global warming. Even though it wasn’t that much compared to other countries I still started made an impact on me, and I think it’s important to go out in the world and see the problems for you self. Otherwise it can be hard really to understand the power of this energy which is kept inside the earth by the greenhouse gasses. I think that it’s important to be aware of this problem because of the casualties it can cause if we don’t listen to it. And it doesn’t have to be that big a problem if we want to help the environment. If we took the bicycle once in a while instead of taking the car, then we would already have helped to save the environment, because small changes can make a big difference. What if each person in the world took their bicycle just once a week instead of taken the car to work, then we would end up in huge amounts of saved emission. Renewable energy is also a common solution. Denmark is one of the biggest users of renewable energy compared to the amount of people living in Denmark. Renewable energy is 100% clean from CO2 emission, and is one of the biggest contemporary ideas of a cleaner world. I would personally think that the idea of windmill parks is a great start for a healthier way to get energy, sun collectors is also a good way of collecting healthy energy on. The problem in this is of course that it’s very expensive, and that’s also why Denmark is such a big user of windmills; because we can effort it. It’s just like food, in poor places of fx. USA, we see many obedient poor people. Fast-food is the cheapest way they can get nutrition, and when they can’t effort any healthier they have to buy unhealthy, which in most cases cause obedience. This is the same with the countries emission of CO2. Because many countries are a lot bigger and aren’t as wealthy as Denmark. They don’t only need more money but also more windmills to feed the people with electricity. The fast-food is in this situation the same as the CO2 releasing electricity plants which is cheaper than the windmills. The world is having the same obedience problem; there are too much greenhouse gasses. By finding solutions fit for the economy of the country everybody can help making the world safer.
Another common topic inside global warming is polar bears. I remember when I was in the zoo seeing these polar bears running around having no trouble living, and when I see old documentaries of polar bears they aren’t having any trouble finding food for them and their children. But instead of seeing cute polar bears on TV today we see polar bears sitting on a break of ice surrounded by water for as long as the eye can see. Because of the increasing warmth, ice is melting and the polar bears can’t find places to live. How can we be so arrogant and not think about other creatures? We are the smartest and highest placed creature in the food chain. Because of this we have to take responsibility for over deeds. We can’t just ruin forests without thinking about the living creatures in the forest. I think that it’s our responsibility to take care of the world, and make it a safer place for everybody, because we are the overruling creature on this planet.
When I look out of my window today I don’t see any harm done. I actually see very cold temperatures, and snow in the end of February. It seems a bit strange if the world is getting hotter which many experts say. But when they say the world is getting hotter they mean very few degrees which are almost impossible to notice especially in the winter. The problem in this situation isn’t the earth changing because it doesn’t care; it has already been through ice-ages and very hard periods. The problem is us making too much mess with Mother Nature not thinking about the possible consequences. It can be hard for some people to find these facts real. Why should this happen now? And what are the odds? It doesn’t matter! Because this problem is whether we believe in it or not such a big situation that it would be stupid not to believe in. We need for once to think about others. By thinking about making a cleaner world with less CO2 emission it will be good even if the facts are wrong; because if the facts turn out to be wrong then we will still have cleaner streets with less smoke and hopefully the blue skies will be a common sight. That’s why I think it’s important to believe in no matter what the facts will turn out to be.
