Racial description of the Rottweiler
The Rottweiler dog is a very big race in Denmark. This race is easy to recognise because of its black body with orange marking at the chest, legs, and neck. The Rottweiler is a large race, but the race is kind and a good family dog.
Origin:
The Rottweiler is a very old race. It comes all the way back from the Romans, where it was used as a shepherds dog. It was necessary for the Roman legions to bring cows and sheep to feed the many soldiers.

The Rottweiler was breeded to that task. Later the Rottweiler was important for the farmers to protect the live stock against thieves at wild animals.

Temper:
The Rottweiler is very aware, of nature. They are kind to children and easy to train. Actually are the Rottweiler so smart that it is among the ten smartest dogs according to Stanley Corens book "The intelligent dog".

Size:
The Rottweiler is a medium to large race. The males gets between 61-68 cm big, and the bitches between 56-63 cm. There is a difference at the weight too. The male ways about 50 kg. The bitch only 42 kg.

Grooming:
The Rottweiler is a shorthaired race that shed twice a year. Because of the short fur there is not a lot of grooming.

Suited for:
The Rottweiler is often shown as a brutal and biting dog, witch is not correct. Actually is this race smart, kind also to other dogs. But as always you have to socialise the puppy so there is no problems later in life.
