On 29 August 1958, a star was born in America. Michael Joseph Jackson is his name. In a small house in Gary, Michael lived together with his brothers, sisters, mother, and father. There were 11 people in all. The house had only two bedrooms, and one of them was for the parents. Michael had since he was a baby always been very fond of music and showed his talent already at the age of six.

Michael’s first performance was at his school where he sang "Climb Ev'ry Mountain" from the "Sound Of Music". People were so moved by the performance that they got tears in their eyes. Not only Michael was the little boy, he was also a very talented one.

When Michael later started a solo career, he had both ups and downs. The press was always anxious to get the latest news about Michael, and if they cannot get any, they make some up themselves.

Michael wrote a lot of his songs but not all of them. When he was a part of the "Jackson 5", he never had any influence on the songs that were recorded on the albums, but as he turned a solo, he got more and more responsibility. In the end, it turned out to be nothing but an advantage for the producers as Michael’s success grew with the responsibility. A good example is the album "Thriller", which sold more copies than any record ever - it even made it to the "Guinness Book of World Records 1984"! It is also a fact that some of Michael’s most popular songs are written by himself, e.g. "Billie Jean", "Black or White", and ""Heal the World".

The songs written by Michael Jackson contain all kinds of subjects. One of his most important songs would be "Heal the World", which is a song Michael wrote and performed to make money for the Heal The World Foundation - an international children’s charity. The song is about how the world could be a much better place if we all just help a little. Another song he performed with lots of famous artist is "We Are The World". This song is once again about how we can fight the world’s misery.

Though Michael trough the early years in the family band "Jackson 5" has been the most popular of the group, his family has always supported him. His father was at times a tough and strict man, but he only wanted the best for his sons. Michael was the one to get all the attention – he was the front figure of the Jackson family. In the latest decade, Michael has written almost all his lyrics himself. He got more responsibility as his career grew. His songs are mostly about the world and it’s misery, love, and hope.

Michael has through his songs tried to inspire people all over the world. If we listen well to his songs, they ask us to help each other trough bad times, to forget about segregation and war, and to love each other.
