 In the years that Dubai has been modernized city and they have invested heavily in expensive facilities, the outcome has been strong growth in tourism. There are almost more tourists than the population of Dubai. But tourism has its advantages. Firstly, as we all know the salaries are not particularly high in Dubai. Therefore, it has created a system that helps the poor people without education for instance they sell souvenirs to tourists and they actually earn a lot of money on that. But not only souvenirs, Local food is very popular, actually, food chains like McDonald's earns less than the local restaurants who sell their homemade food like Falafel which is an Arabic “national snack”. Dubai is a popular destination because the city has a lot of money and therefore builds many new skyscrapers and facilities and it attracts new people from Western countries.
When I was in Dubai last year I saw that local people begin to imitate the West. They are not with their usual clothes more, for example, many men are no longer in their Keffiyeh (Arabic head scarf) and the women are no longer in their usual Hijab more because now you just cover your hair.
When you go a little out of Dubai and near the beaches there are many markets where you can buy everything. Everything from clothes to electronics to food, like many other places a lot of the shops is owned by local people selling their crafts and their sketch drawings. Many of the things they sell are unique things that you might not find in Denmark as an example, handmade jewelry and sculptures. Inside the city is a great place where you can perform dance, drama or something similar.
