The mermaid tells us that she longs to return to the surface to hear the sound and see how it is (slettet ord) at the surface because she reaches the age of 15. If we observe the quote thorougly, we see that the mermaid loves the surface even though that the ocean is more beautiful than the landscape.
The mermaid would try something that is different from what she is used to.

We read in the story that the ocean was beautiful even if it was deep and blue. The depth makes a form of a scary idea about the ocean.

This quote shows us the differences between the feminine which is the sea that is fabulous and beautiful. The sea gives us feelings and real girl stuff, and the masculine where the noise and parties takes over show us where the real man should live. The mermaid is in her puberty, and she is confused. She has (hold dig til samme tid gennem teksten. Hvad er det du vil sige i næste sætning?) but in the beginning the story shows us the danger about love and the responsibility in taking the duty. (??)

We see that the little mermaid is going to grow up because she tries to find another place where she can experience new things. She’s developed from a child to an adult. She falls in love. There is passion and it’s what happens when everyone reaches the age of puberty. The Mermaid gets older and her life becomes more risky, therefore she makes several decisions. This is what the story symbolize in this quote.

H.c. Andersen plays with functions of the sea and the landscape. Commonly we know that the ocean is pure and everyone will take ocean instead of the landscape. If we are talking about beauty and if we should choose a place it would be the ocean and the beach, but the mermaid choosees the opposite. She decides to take a look at the landscape.

It’s the same kind of witches that live in the dark sea and try to manipulate the love. The witches’ duty is to destroy love and make it prohibited. (beskriv gerne disse hekse lidt mere. Du nævner dem kun ganske kort. Hvem er de?)

And the prince in the other place behind the border and the gate of the ocean is far away to catch for the mermaid so it’s very difficult. It’s is a kind of forbidden love story.

All these things I wrote are very important to this quote I chose. Because of all these new things (slettet ord) the mermaid is about to grow up and realize that you are another person. (hvem er "en ny person"? Skal der ikke stå "she" i stedet for "you"?)
