My Dream Job
When I ask myself, what the job of my dreams is, I cannot find an exact answer, though I am searching it. I am not even sure, if the perfect job exists, so I believe that I will have to compromise with my priorities, when I one day will choose what way to go.
The most important thing is in my opinion that that job is interesting – that I like it – and that I each morning am looking forward to get out of bed and go to work. Off course there will be days, where I will not feel like working – everyone has them – but if I am interested in what I am doing, there will only be few of these days. Another important value is good colleagues. If I don’t get along with them, the job can be very interesting, without making me feel good about it. And on the other hand, a less exciting job can be rather enjoyable if I am on the same wavelength as the people I work with.
The salary is less important than the excitement and the colleagues but it still has something to say, though I am certain that I will not choose a job that pays lower, than what the average Dane earns.
I have already now decided that my future is not within the workman subject, since I do not find physical work interesting, and it does not give me the challenge that I want, so I have chosen the academic way, but I do not know what to do when I have graduated.
Currently I would like to become a doctor, because I followed an anaesthetist, when I in November last year had the mandatory work experience. It was very exciting to see, how the doctor worked, and I had a lot of memorable experiences, among others I saw two operations; one was for the removal of gallstones, and the other was for the removal of a piece of the large intestine due to cancer. Both operations were of the duration of approximately four hours.
Despite the surgery ward the doctor also had daily chores at the department of intensive care, where the sickest patients lie. Suddenly I was really close to reality, and far away from my normally sheltered existence. I had a very special experience, when the doctor and I, one day transferred an unconscious woman to the intensive care department. The doctor did not give her many chances, and when I met the next day, I only saw her death certificate at the desk. That gave me an odd feeling.
To be admitted at medical school at the University of Copenhagen maths and physics at B-level and chemistry at C-level are required which is why I have chosen the maths-physics-chemistry line. Studying medicine is a six-year course, so I will not join it if I am tired of going to school when the gymnasium is done.
