For 26 år siden holdt FN sin første miljøkonference i Stockholm. Men først i sommeren 1992 blev den fulgt op af endnu en konference i Rio de Janiero.
Hvad er der så sket i det forløbne år? I den årlige rapport fra Worldwatch Institute i Washington står der følgende:
"Skal Rio-topmødet blot betragtes som en vellykket mediebegivenhed, der ikke bidrog tilstrækkeligt til at løse verdens miljøproblemer? En så negativ dom ville nok være for hård, selv om forandringerne hidtil er gået frustrerende langsomt. Det er trods alt en kendsgerning, at det på miljøtopmødet lykkedes at starte en udvikling, som vil bære frugt i fremtiden."

What has then happened during the past year? In the annually report from Worldwatch Institute in Washington it is as follows:
“Must the Rio-summit only be considered as a successful media event, which not contributed enough to solve the environment problems of the world? Such a negative judgement would probably be too strong even though the changes up to now have gone frustratingly slow. It is in spite over everything a fact that it at the environment summit succeeded in starting a development, which will bear fruit in the future.”

26 years ago, the UN (ikke FN!!!) held its first environment conference in Stockholm; however, it was not until the summer of 1992 (the skal være der)that it was followed by another conference in Rio de Janeiro (det skal ikke være followed up - det betyder at "følge en sag op"). What has, then, been achieved during the past year? In the annual (ikke annually - det er et biord)report from Worldwatch Institute in Washington (er det USA eller Nordengland?) hvis det er USA, så skal der faktisk stå Washington DC it states:"Are we to view the Rio summit only as a media stunt, which did not sufficiently contribute to a solution of the world's environmental problems? Such a negative verdict would probably be to harsh, although the changes so far have been frustratingly slow. After all, it is a fact the the outcome of the summit started a development which will bear fruit in the future.
