B) Analyse the text: The New Girl
The narrator remember the particular day, like a very hot day. It was like everything was burning. The hole neighbourhood had to watering their lawns like Allison’s father. It was a beautiful day, but that it not why the narrator remember that day.
Allison was ten, and was interested in Barbie’s and Hall and Oates, even though the narrator didn’t share her interest did he look up to her, and they spent a lots of time together pretending to be married, riding bikes and playing Clue.
The narrator was eight back then, but he still remember the meeting between him and the new girl clearly. She stood in the middle of prospect street. The narrator smiled to the girl, and she smiled back. The smiles in the two kids faced was a sign of interesting for each other, they wonted to play together and be friends. But then Allison come and interrupts whit shouting:” Get out of here nigger”. These word was so mean and spiteful, that the smiles soon disappeared. Allison makes the narrator feel like he has did something wrong, and because he looked up to her, he would not look at the new girl anymore. Allison doesn’t like black people, probably because her parents don’t like black people. The big tensions among the kids is strongly described by the narrator. He underline the tension whit saying that the sprinkler hit him between his shoulder blades and pushing him forward. Forward to the new girl, but something is holding him back. Allison stand still while the water sprinkle over her, she don’t won’t to move. You can imagine the silence in the street, there only is interrupt by the sprinklers blast.
The girl goes back to the house, she shuffled and have her head down, that clearly tell us, that the little girl is sad and disappointed. Maybe she have tried a similar situation before.
The narrator sees the girls mother in the window, and he think she will come out and make him say sorry to the new girl, but she didn’t. Maybe she know the only thing there will come out of it was chaos. The two white kids parents will be mad, and soon the hole neighbourhood will hate her more, than they all ready do. The white just have a lot more power, and the black have to be humble.
When the narrator talks whit Allison after the new girl had gone inside, Allison says: ” Mom says they’re going to ruin our house”. Allison is just a kid and do not really know why her mother have said that, but she just know that blacks are bad. She just have her parents view of the blacks. She say these word so the narrator understand why she hate them. And it is easy to hate someone you don’t know.
The story is a true story, that makes the story more interested, and you are thinking over, that is so sad that something like this have had happened in real life, but so good that the narrator have thought about that day so must. The narrator have written this story to discuss and inform, and because it is true, it is very convincing.
The narrator remember that day, because he think he have did something wrong. In the last part of the story, he explain how he have it, about that day. He think about it almost ever day. He never said I am sorry, he was to afraid. He hope the young girl and hers mother have forgotten about that day, but he know they have not. In the start of the story the narrator tells us about some wounds the cycles make in the garden, they didn’t heal. The same way do the wounds in the black girls mind not heal. And the narrator feels guilty.
