Lapping up paperless learning;
St Cecilie,s is an high school, with a full complement of 900 pupils. An innoviation school that wants to be on the top. They want to be the leading school of its time when it comes to technology. They say that they can,t see the point in having a new 21st century high school and running it along 19th century lines. St Cecilia,s he havde the goal to be in front within information technology,s.
Every one of the pupils at the St Cecilia,s has their own laptop, witch they can pick up in morning and use across subjects until the school day ends.
Every classroom in St Cecilia,s is equipped with electronic whitebords, upon which teachers flash up their lessons. Pupils can do their homwork onscreen at school and file it electronically for marking. And the can also access and work on their school files from home computers. The pupils are after all not allowed to bring home their laptops at night.
Of course there are both pros and cons connected to the use of laptops at school. First and foremost the pupils have the possibility to do their homework on screen at school and file it electronically. The teachers have the opportunity to deliver documents to the students electronically. The pupils can organize their documents and notes easy which makes a good general view. The big problem with it will be that the students have easy access to internet. That they do not always use for educational purposes. And it takes all the focuse, like every pupil is in his own little world behind he screen, which can cause them bad. I can tell from me own exrariens, especially if a lot of the pupils use the laptop to non school related things in the lessons.
All in all I think that the investment in computers is value for money because you have to look forward and prepare the students on a life where information technology is going to play a lot larger role than it is today.
The pupils who have much self-discipline have an advantage of having a laptop because they are able to use the laptop in a sensible way. But the pupils without self-discipline are better served by not having a laptop. In the end it is each students own responsible how to use it.

Jeg har understreget nogle stavefejl og grammatiske fejl. Der er stadig en hel del forkerte ordvalg, men de kan jo komme senere, når de understregede er i orden :)

They say that they can't see the point in having a new 21st century high school running by 19th century (guidelines? - lines er i hvert fald forkert ordvalg). St. Cecilia has the goal to be in front within information technology.

The big problem with it is that the students have easy access to the internet. Which they do not always use for educational purposes. And it takes all the focus, is if every pupil is in his own little world behind the/his screen, which can cause them bad. I can tell from my own exrariens (hvad er det ord?!), especially if a lot of the pupils use the laptop to non-school related things in the lessons.
All in all I think that the investment in computers is worth the expenses because you have to look forward and prepare the students for a life where information technology is going to play a larger role than it is today.
The pupils that have a lot of self-discipline have an advantage by having a laptop because they are able to use the laptop in a sensible way. But the pupils without self-discipline are better off by not having a laptop. In the end it is every student's own responsibility, how they bennifit from a laptop in the lessons.
