OPGAVEN:
Commentary and discussion:
"The Japanese, who have long been fascinated by the robot as android, are concentration on making machines that look and act like human beings. U.S. firms, on the other hand, have eschewed the flashier android approach and instead are emphasizing products that, like Roomba are narrowly targeted to specific tasks like mowing lawns, cleaning pools and taking patients' vital signs”.
Many countries don’t agree with which version of the robots we need in the future. In the text, "Why should we be friends??" this is U.S and Japan.
The U.S firms exist on that the robots should have a specific task instead for friendly side as the Japan means. The Japanese are trying to make robots that can make our daily life easier. They are fascinated by the robots’ function and the Japanese are always trying to make robots that look like and act like human. If it became possible to make robots that act like human, I think the robots would be a part of our daily life. They could be beside us like they were our left hand. The robots can do the physical work for us, but not only that, they robots could also make cleaning work and simple things as serve food and watch children etc. In this way the Japanese are technology optimists. They have a dream of one day they androids will help people and make their day easier. Japan may also use robots to do all the tedious work for them. Japan get help from the government, they received 100 $ million and they have a dream of one day the androids would help people and make their daily life easier.
Japan can also use robots to do all the tedious work for them. The tedious work and some other works like cleaning are due to laziness. Actually, we are in 2012 and these days the most families are pretty busy. They can’t reach everything in one day. They have to make a plan for the week or maybe for the day. So if they had a robot to take some of the things above, it would be smart.
Some people let the robots' stay home and clean or look after the children. The reason that we use robots is lack of time. When a humans want a robot to care for their children then it's probably because they don’t have time to do it self.
Besides robots can take care of children, they can also be used at the nursing home. I do not think we should let a robot take care of the elderly or children. Cuz how can a robot communicate with an older person at the nursing home? And what if the robot crush they child? The robots U.S firms want to be produced in the feature has a structured job as it fits and everything outside can’t be understand by the robot, since the robot does not have a brain that can refer to different topics. And a child doesn't get enough care if it is a robot that takes care of the child. The child's learning will also be different if it's not a real mom who takes care of the child. I think real people should take care of real people.
So I think there are advantages and disadvantages of both versions of the robots. A robot which has a specific task can create some troubles if you let it stay at home with children or elderly. But the robot can also be useful. Example if we use the robots in workplaces where there are many repetitive tasks. In this way I think the U.S firms' version of robot could be a great idea. But in a country like Denmark these robots would be a disadvantage if they took over the works in the workplaces. Some people would lose their jobs and then they have to get a new and higher education. Because theirs low educations are taking by the robots. They would actually be unemployed.
We live in a world with many risks, so if you look at both advantages and disadvantages of robots as one might think that the disadvantages would be outweighed by the benefits. But now the question is which version do we get to use in the future? Both Japan and the U.S government are interest in making a national robotic strategy. Which one will win and who is the looser? It's all up to the permission of technology of artificial intelligence.
