Stil - HASTER!

Hej er der nogen der har lyst til lige at se denne stil igennem...?

It was a rainy Saturday evening and Penny was running down the street and turned into the dark alley, or it looked like a strange and dark alley even though it had been a broad street filled with sunshine. There used to be beautiful houses on both sides of the street but now they had all become dilapidated. The reason that it was so narrow now was because there were people lying beside the houses on both sides. They didn’t have a home but that wasn’t unusual. Now a days most of the people didn’t have houses, they had to live on the streets while they had probably broken a law. Their clothes were all dirty and muddy of the rain and of the dust and sand on the road. She almost stepped on a hand, which was just about to grab her right leg. She stumbled and made a quick move to run faster and wished she hadn’t been working for such a long time. Why were she not aware of this, she already knew it was too dangerous to be out after seven p.m. but she was totally wrapped up in her work. Finally, she was on the main road, where the police were all the time to watch over the homeless. She was in a safe area now and her house was only a half mile from here. When she arrived to her small house she saw something crouching was lying on the doormat. As she went to the door she could see that it was a sleeping beggar. She kicked him gently in his stomach to see if he was still alive but he didn’t react. She looked around her for help but unfortunately she couldn’t spot any person, except for the homeless of course, and you were not supposed to talk to them at all. That could lead to cruel punishment. She kicked him harder this time and she could hear a sudden cough, so at least he wasn’t dead. She started to yell at him and told him to get the hell out of here. The beggar, who suffered from a deadly disease, looked her right in the eye and in a feeble voice asked if he could please have some water before he died. It may have rescued his life but Penny got angry and pushed him away brutally. She closed her door with a bang right in his face.
Her house wasn’t too big, it could only hold one person. If you were one of the lucky ones, who had a house, you only got room for yourself. All the houses were the same. On the outside it was dark brown and there was a door as thin as cardboard. Inside there were only a small kitchen and one bedroom. The plaster flaked constantly from the walls and the roof leaked whenever it was a bad weather.
Penny walked into her kitchen and began to boil some tinned food. She had only two left so she had to eat the half tin. If she didn’t start to save her money she would risk to end up in the streets like the others. The rule was that you had to have at least hundred pounds otherwise you would be thrown out of your house, because it wasn’t your own. There was nothing called your property or your belongings at all anymore. Everything was something you had rented and if you didn’t obey the rules you would be thrown out. Penny was getting tired and she had to work early tomorrow so she had to sleep in a few minutes. She slept in her tiny bed on a thin, yellowish mattress, which was really worn out. Abruptly, she woke up while she was sleeping because she could hear a noise at her front door. Suddenly, the door opened violently and she could hear three or four men coming into her bedroom. Their footsteps were hard and fast. A torch lightened up her entire room and she was getting dazzled of it. She already knew that it was the police, who were in her house, because they always came into people’s houses in that rude way and whenever it suited them. One of the police officers asked if she knew the dead man lying in her front yard. She couldn’t imagine of any man she knew and suddenly remembered the beggar. She was silent and just staring at them all, she knew that they would think that she killed him and the punishment of killing a man now a days was something she didn’t even dare to think of. He asked again and started coming nearer the bed. Penny told them that she didn’t even know that there was a beggar in front of her house. Anyhow, she hadn’t seen him when she got home. The police officers looked at each other suspiciously. “Well no problem then, sorry for disturbing you”, said one of the police officers and then they left. Penny sat in her bed and breathed a sigh of relief. If someone had seen her kicking the beggar it wasn’t sure that she was alive right now, but what else could she do, he might pretend to be sick and would steal all of her money. It was only the police who could kill the homeless beggars and no one else. She saw at her watch and was happy she could sleep a couple of hours more. And then she had to work again.
In the morning she saw out of her window in a hesitant way to see if the beggar was still there. Fortunately he wasn’t and she could go to work now without thinking of the episode that had happened last night. She was in a hurry and had to take on the yellow suit like everybody else. All the workers had yellow suits and every time she was dressed in it she felt like a prisoner. Why couldn’t they even choose what to wear? The society was a hell and many of the workers wanted to die. Once at the work they had discussed if it was best, to die or to stay alive and live in a place similar to hell. Penny had given it a thought. If you had been a good person you would go to heaven and in Paradise. At least it couldn’t be worse than this.
As she walked down her front yard she saw blood stains in the yellowish grass. It made her blood run cold and she panicked. She had to clean it up immediately otherwise they would kill her. Penny was satisfied with the result and went off to work. She just wanted to be home before five p.m. so she wouldn’t experience the same as she did yesterday.

Penny was a single, pretty and middle-aged woman. She was single like the entire population because it was illegal to have any kind of relationship. If it happened that you fell in love with someone you got punished. The punishment would probably be imprisonment with hard labour. Everybody knew that all kind of punishment were something terrible and if you knew someone who got punished, you never saw that person again for the rest of your life.
Love didn’t exist in this society. Although women had to raise children and therefore there was the option to get pregnant without a relationship to the child’s father. The advantage of getting pregnant was that you could stop working. Penny had given the pregnancy a thought because she found the work too hard physically and every time she went of to work she felt like a prisoner. But what would she do at her small house all alone. It seemed boring to her. At least she saw other people and when the leaders weren’t around them they chatted with each other.
Why had the society changed so fast and in such a horrible way? Penny wished she could do something about it, but when she couldn’t socialize, it was hard. The society had made it impossible to think and to change the world. She could only wait to die because then she would be in Paradise, if only God hadn’t seen that she almost killed a homeless...
