The first European settlement
At the African southernmost did the Dutchmen groceries establish an intermediate station in 1652, where they could stay during their way to India.
This station developed into a farming-colony which gradually expanded more and more into the Hottentotters native country.
The Boers who where also the name on the Dutchmen considered themselves as a stronger and more valuable race compared with the natives. They did also import slaves from East Africa and India so that they could live as a privileged upper-class even though the country was poor.
In the beginning of the 19th century Britain monopolized the area at “Kap the good hope”.
The Dutch and the Englishmen lived side by side nearly peacefully during some years even though they didn’t share the sa me view of the natives and the English government who did remove slaves.
“The Great Trek”
The most stubborn Dutchmen – the ones called “Voortrekkers” broke with it and started The Great Trek towards North in 1836 so they could live without intervention from the Englishmen.
This is the heroically period in the Boer history where they captured colossal territories from a numerically superior African enemy. The Boers had the decisive technical advantages and felt that the Lord was with them controlling their destiny.
When the enemy was threatening did they place their wagons in a ring with hawthorns sticking into the wheels. A ring like that – so-called “laager” – was a fortress which it rarely didn’t succeed the natives to defeat.
The Englishmen didn’t follow in first turn, and during 1852-1853 did Oranje and Transvaal approved as independent republics.
The result by the capture was that the native had to serve the white people and
