Hey, er der nogle som hurtigt gider at læse dette engelsk igennem - gerne med ord som lyder bedre eller lign, skal aflevere det om lidt... ville være en stor hjælp.
The short story, “Our Nicky’s Heart”, deals with a tragedy that suddenly struck an innocent family.
The father of the family is a farmer and with his wife they have three sons; Michael, Eddy and Mark. After a while the mother gets pregnant for the fourth time and this time she really hopes for a daughter, who can leaven some of the male dough.
She wishes this so much that she even, in secret, names the baby “Sally” before the birth.
Sally turns out to be “Nicky” but that does not stop the mother from spoiling Nicky as her little baby-girl. Age seventeen Nicky scrapes together enough cash to buy an old Yamaha, on which he drives a lot. One day everything collapses for Nicky and the family; Nicky has an accident with his motorcycle and is, because of a brain injury, not able to regain his consciousness ever again. Subsequent Nicky’s mother decides that his organs, particularly his heart, should be made available to others. A very hard decision which also makes the mother very depressed for a long time.
Mark is informed that a forty-six-year-old woman is the receiver of Nicky’s heart, but to calm the mother down he lies to her and tells her that a young woman received Nicky’s heart. This way he spares her from wondering where Nicky’s heart is.
