Hej allesammen.

Mange tak for enhver hjælp.

Tekst:

Hello, my name is Peter. I would like to tell you about the invasion of Normandy, also known as D-Day. Let us get started. It was clear that an invasion of this size had to be planned by an experienced, confident and clever crew of military leaders. The crew issue was quickly solved by putting together a more than qualified team consisting of British officers and generals plus American generals led by supreme commander Dwight Eisenhower. In addition to the British and American soldiers whom fought for their countries, additional Canadian soldiers participated. Everyone knew that a battle like that would be devastating in terms of casualties. And no wonder. In the end, about 10 – 15.000 Allied soldiers had lost their lives, while the opposition, the Axis powers, had lost anywhere from 4 – 9000 men. The Allied forces attacked different beaches, and in order to prevent the Germans to conceptualize the invasion, they gave the beaches different codenames and different orders. They named the beaches Juno, Omaha, Utah, Sword and Gold. The American forces took care of Utah and Omaha, the British, Sword and Gold, while the Canadians were sent to Gold. The German resistance on the beaches was somewhat heavy, consisting of snipers, machine gunners, bunkers, mines, obstacles and such. The battle went along just fine, although the weather had caused complications in terms of the aerial assault and the beach landings. As they went ashore on the beaches however, they encountered heavy fire. After making their way up the beach filled with minor and severe obstacles, they came to a mine field. After making their way through that, they reached the main bunkers. It must have been a real hell on the battlefield. The movie Saving Private Ryan is a perfect example for my presentation. It follows the Americans at Omaha Beach, and is a very emotional and influencing movie. This topic has taught me a lot about not only the invasion, but also about how the war was built up and what caused it. It was a very exciting experience to work with WW2, and I certainly don’t regret anything at all. Thank you for your time.

- Peter

Let us -> Let's). ;)
