MARIONETTES, INC.

The themes in this essay is male suppression, and their way to deal with it (is it ethical), and science influence in everyday life.

The author’s intentions with this essay, is to tell us that everything can be overdone. Particularly when we are talking about science, we have to slow down before the technological world will replace the “real world.” However, he also wants to tell us, that we cannot marry a person we do not love, since we have to live with her to the end of our days.

Braling is living in a very unhappy marriage, he does not love his wife, and the reason why Braling has married her, was that she threatened to call the police unless he married her. She would tell the police that he had raped her; if he did not marry her, because of he was afraid for the case would ruin his life, he did not fight for the true. Now his life is ruined, he has no free time, and has to ask his wife if he would like to take a walk. Therefore, it is a relationship with out love and happiness. Therefore, Braling have bought a marionette, which can replace him. When the marionette has replaced him, he wants to travel to Rio as he has dreamed of for the last ten years. Talking of marionettes, Braling have a very strange definition of what there is ethical and what there is not. At one time in a conversation with Smith, Braling find it unethical to put sleeping powder in his wife’s coffee, but later we find out, that he have replaced himself with a marionette. However, he cannot see any thing wrong in that. That is very strange after my opinion since I find it worse that he replace himself, and travel away for a month. Than putting sleeping powder in his wife’s coffee.

Smith is also living in an unhappy marriage, not in a so extreme way as Braling (after his own opinion) but still unhappy. The reason why the marriage is unhappy is not for want of love, but because Smith wife, Nettie overdoes everything:

“I mean, after all, when you’ve been married ten years, you don’t expect a woman to sit on your lap for two hours every evening, call you at work twelve times a day and talk baby talk”

Smith got very interested when he hears about the marionette, because he needs some breathing space. But to his big surprise, he discoverers that his “wife” is a marionette. So his “real” wife isn’t so crazy with him as he thought.

Therefore I must say not everything is like it look too.

Hej
Linje 1:
'are' i stedet for 'is', da 'themes' er flertal
Linje 4:
samme situation. 'intentions' er flertal - derfor 'are'
I 3. afsnit:
ikke "because of", bare 'because'. Samme sted: Måske skulle du skrive, 'he was afraid if the case would ruin his life'.
'fight for the truth' i stedet for 'true'
Jeg forstår ikke 'he has to ask his wife if he would like to take a walk', men hvis du mener, at han bliver nødt til at spørge hende om lov, så skal du nok skrive '...if he could go for a walk'.
Jeg tror du skal skrive: 'Talking about marionettes, Braling has a very strange definition of what is ethical and what isn't.'

Ray Bradbury: MARIONETTES, INC.

Marionettes, Inc is a story wrote in 1951, it deals with science influence at the world,

The themes in this story are male suppression, and their way to deal with it (is it ethical), and science influence in everyday life. In the story, we are following to men, Smith and Braling.

Braling is living in a very unhappy marriage, he does not love his wife, and the reason why Braling has married her, was that she threatened to call the police unless he married her. Now his life is ruined, he has no free time, and has to ask his wife if he could go for a walk. Therefore, it is a relationship with out love and happiness. Because of that fact, Braling have bought a marionette, which can replace him. When the marionette has replaced him, he wants to travel to Rio as he has dreamed of for the last ten years. Talking about marionettes, Braling has a very strange definition of what is ethical and what is not. Smith gets very interested when he hears about the marionette, because he needs some breathing space. To his big surprise, he discoverer that his “wife” is a marionette, so his “real” wife is not so crazy with him as he thought.

In the end of the essay it gets worse, Braling discover to his big surprise that Braling two(the marionette) has fallen in love with his wife, and therefore he will lock Braling up for forever and replace him. Braling gets extremely frightened, cause he had never imagined that the marionette wouldn’t follow his instructions. Braling two locks Braling into the box, and throwaway the key. Afterwards Braling go upstairs kiss Braling’s wife goodnight, and that will be the beginning of his new life.

Therefore I must say, not everything is like it look too.

Marionettes Inc is a story written in 1951.

It deals with male suppression, men's way to handle with and science's influence on everyday life.

We follow two men in the story, Smith and Braling.

Braling lives in a very unhappy marriage. He does not love his wife and is only married because she has threatened to tell the police he raped her if he did not marry her.

Being afraid of having his life ruined, he does not fight back. However, his life is runined anyway.

He now has no free time, and has to ask his wife if he can go for a walk.

Therefore, it is a relationship with no love and happiness.

That is why, Braling have bought a marionette that can replace him.

When the marionette has replaced him, he wants to travel to Rio as he has dreamed about for the last ten years.

Talking about marionettes, Braling has a very strange definition of what is ethical and what is not.

At one time in a conversation with Smith, Braling finds it unethical to put sleeping powder in his wife’s coffee, however, we later we out that he has replaced himself with a marionette.

However, he cannot see the wrong thing in doing that. This is very strange in my opinion. I find it worse to replace oneself with a marionette than to put sleeping powder in his/the wife’s coffee.

Smith is also part of an unhappy marriage, not in a so extreme way as Braling (after his own opinion) but still unhappy.

The reason why his marriage is unhappy is not due to lack of love, but simply because Smith wife, Nettie, overdoes everything:

“I mean, after all, when you’ve been married ten years, you don’t expect a woman to sit on your lap for two hours every evening, call you at work twelve times a day and talk baby talk”

Smith is very interested when he hears about the marionette. That is because he needs some breathing space.

To his big surprise, he discoverer that his “wife” is a marionette.

So his “real” wife is not so crazy about him as he thought.

In the end of the essay, things get worse. Braling discovers to his big surprise that Braling Two, the marionette, has fallen in love with his wife.

That is why he wants to lock Braling up forever and take his place.

Braling gets extremely frightened, since he had never imagined that the marionette would not follow his instructions.

Braling Two locks Braling into the box, and throws away the key.

Afterwards Braling goes upstairs to kiss Braling’s wife goodnight. This is the start of a new era of his life.

Therefore I must say that not everything is not what is should be.

I think the author in this essay tries to tell us that everything can be overdone.

Particularly when talking about science, we have to slow down if the technological world is not to replace the “real world.”

However, he also wants to tell us that you cannot marry a person, whom you do not love.

handle with this suppression/handle being suppressed

Braling have = Braling has

we later we = later we find

the wrong thing in doing that = el. the wrong in doing so etc.

due to lack of love = due to the lack of love

discoverer = discovers

era of = el era in

that not everything = that everything is not what it ought/should/is supposed to be etc.

in this essay = slet det

technological world = el bare technology
